CARBON FOOTPRINT OF COFFEE

Coffee can fuel the climate crisis, if not done right

From growing coffee plants to grinding roasted coffee beans for brewing, a total of 250 g of CO2e is emitted per cup of black coffee. Farm-level activities, such as planting, growing, protecting, harvesting, drying, and grading, account for 85% of the total emissions created per cup of coffee. For a 12oz latte made with dairy milk, it will be 880 g of CO2e, while for a 12oz oat milk latte, it will be 430 g of CO2e.

CERTIFIED CLIMATE WAVE COFFEE CAN BE CLIMATE POSITIVE

Adding milk to coffee adds more CO2e to environment

A 12oz Cafe Latte is typically made with espresso and 200g of milk. A dairy milk latte emits a total of 880g of CO2e, while an oat milk latte emits 430g of CO2e.

We gratefully acknowledge that we currently live, play, and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We honour and respect the rich history, cultural heritage, and ongoing contributions of the indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations. We are committed to learning, listening, and standing in solidarity with these Nations as we continue our operations on this sacred land. We also equally express our gratitude for the indigenous peoples around the world, especially those who protect the tropical forests of the coffee-growing regions.
