At COMSA (Café Orgánico Marcala), coffee isn't just a crop—it’s a way of life rooted in responsibility and hope for the future. Each of us, farmers from the hills of Marcala, Honduras, has woven a personal connection to the land, tending our farms with love and care. Coffee here grows under agroforestry systems, with trees, plants, and wildlife coexisting in harmony. Every tree we plant today is a promise to the next generation that they, too, will have a future worth cultivating.

Our work is grounded in ritual. At dawn, we give thanks to Mother Earth and God for the blessings of the day. Coffee is always the first thing we brew before heading to the fields. The rhythm of farm life brings peace—harvesting, pruning, and weeding become moments of meditation, offering solace from life’s challenges. When we step onto the farm, it feels like entering a sacred space, where we can leave behind the stress of debts and worries, and reconnect with something larger than ourselves.

Tradition flows through every aspect of our farming. From hand-digging planting holes with organic compost to using tools like the machete, each task holds meaning and carries the wisdom of generations. Teaching our children and the youth in our community about organic agriculture ensures that these traditions continue to flourish. Whether in family meetings or at our COMSA International School, we plant seeds of knowledge alongside our crops, fostering a love for sustainable farming.

Marcala’s unique microclimate—shaped by the influence of the Pacific Ocean—gives our coffee a distinctive elegance. Dry, sunny days during the harvest season allow the coffee cherries to ripen perfectly. We pride ourselves on handpicking only the ripest cherries and processing them with meticulous care, preserving the region’s reputation for high-quality coffee.

For us, coffee is more than a product; it is a bond that connects us to our community and to consumers who value responsible agriculture. We see every sip of our coffee as an extension of our values, and we’re grateful to share our work with others. Together, we remind the world of our guiding belief: “¡Que bien sabe su café cuando es producido con responsabilidad!”—"Your coffee tastes better when it’s produced responsibly."

We gratefully acknowledge that we currently live, play, and work on the unceded traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. We honour and respect the rich history, cultural heritage, and ongoing contributions of the indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations. We are committed to learning, listening, and standing in solidarity with these Nations as we continue our operations on this sacred land. We also equally express our gratitude for the indigenous peoples around the world, especially those who protect the tropical forests of the coffee-growing regions.
